Learn about this and other priority bills including a bill that will increase the state residential solar tax credit to backfill the federal government’s abandonment of the rooftop solar tax credit. Other bills will grapple with the environmental impacts of proposed AI data centers. \nWe’ll review our list of priority 2026 climate & energy bills and demonstrate the use 350NM website that will be updated daily. SUMMARY:NM Climate Masters Course
DESCRIPTION:The Santa Fe Watershed Association (SFWA) presents a Climate Masters course\, developed at the University of Oregon Climate Leadership Initiative\, it provides approximately 30 hours of programming over a 9-week time frame. The curriculum focuses primarily on climate change in New Mexico and the locally relevant interrelated connections between water\, soil\, food production\, consumption/waste\, forest management\, transportation\, energy and the way we live our lives. \nWeekly\, expert guest speakers will provide in-depth presentations in each of the topic areas. Participants will also be taken on a field trip into the Upper Santa Fe Watershed to witness first-hand the efforts already underway to protect our forest and water supply. \nOnce the course is completed\, students are required to engage in 30 hours of climate-related community service to receive the title of “Climate Master.” \nThe 2024 NM Climate Masters Course will begin on March 26th and meet every Tuesday Evening until May 21st from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the Randall Davey Audubon Center. We will also go on three Saturday Field Trips (Dates tbd). \nSFWA will open registration for the spring 2024 course at the beginning of February. DESCRIPTION:Lobby Training – Climate & Covid Action on Energy Conservation\, Cars\, Buildings\, Rooftops and Utility Bills \nSustainable Building Tax Credit – Update to existing tax credit for new buildings with a focus on building electrification and net zero energy use. Adds a new tax credit for retrofit of existing buildings and homes\, with double tax credit for low-income New Mexicans. \nEnergy Affordability and Energy Burden Relief Act – Establishes a partial COVID-arrears forgiveness program for electricity and natural gas service. Creates a Community Energy Efficiency Development Block Grant Act that could use any future federal stimulus funds to support local governments and community organizations to improve efficiency in high energy burden communities. Requires utilities to provide a report on what it would take to achieve 100% cost-effective energy efficiency in low income homes.
