SUMMARY:350 Santa Fe Brings Two Climate Documentaries to Santa Fe
DESCRIPTION:On April 26\, 350 Santa Fe continues its film series on climate change with a pair of half hour documentaries showing the impacts of global warming and oil and gas production on two different parts of the planet. \nLand of Sacrifice describes in vivid detail the impacts of oil and gas production in the Permian and San Juan Basins of New Mexico. It makes visible the escape of methane gas into the atmosphere\, documenting its impacts on the climate as well as on the health of people in nearby communities. Filmmaker Annie Ersinghaus will be present to discuss the film and answer questions. \nArctic Alchemy then takes us to the far northern regions of the planet\, showing how global warming is dramatically affecting that distant and pristine region of the Earth. It also describes the personal journey of climate scientist Roman Dial\, who will join us remotely to discuss his explorations. \nThe program begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Contemporary Arts\, 1050 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe. Admission is free. Tax deductible donations to support the continuation of our educational programs are gratefully accepted at 350santafe.org. (Education fund)\, or at the theater on the day of the program.

SUMMARY:Explore Energy Subsidies in En-ROADS
DESCRIPTION:Energy Subsidies and Taxes: Exploring Climate Impacts with En-ROADS\nEnergy subsidies and taxes play a central role in shaping our global energy system. In this session\, we’ll introduce the latest update to the En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator\, which enables you to test adjusting subsidies and taxes separately for each major energy source and brings greater clarity to how these policies work in practice and affect climate outcomes. \nClimate Interactive Executive Director Andrew Jones and System Dynamics Modeler Kaveh Dianati will walk through how to explore energy subsidies and taxes in En-ROADS\, evaluate their impacts\, and apply these insights in your workshops\, discussions\, and decision-making. You’ll see how these features reflect today’s global policy environment and enable you to test how different policies shape emissions\, costs\, and energy use.\n—\nDeveloped by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan\, En-ROADS is a system dynamics model carefully grounded in the best available science and has been calibrated against a wide range of integrated assessment model scenarios.

SUMMARY:Globemallow Project County Commissioners Hearing
DESCRIPTION:Globemallow Project (350MW Solar\, 350MW BESS) \nWhat: Santa Fe County Planning Commission Hearing \nWhen: Thursday April 16\, 4PM \nWhere: 102 Grant Avenue – Commission Chambers/Virtually \nTake Action: \n\n\nSupport Globemallow at the Planning Commission hearing on April 16th – (you can also testify virtually)\nhttps://www.mobilize.us/greenlightaction/event/903635/\nTo testify virtually\, go here (note: you must be on MS Teams to testify):\nhttps://www.santafecountynm.gov/planning-meeting\nSend a letter of support to the Planning Commission:\nhttps://tinyurl.com/globemallow\n\nGlobemallow is a proposed large solar plus battery facility in southeastern Santa Fe County\, planned as a two phase build that would operate as one contiguous project. Phase 1 is described as 199 MWac solar paired with 199 MWac BESS\, and Phase 2 as 150 MWac solar paired with 150 MWac BESS\, for a combined 349 MWac solar and 349 MWac BESS if both phases are built. The site is on the east side of State Highway 41 about 2.4 miles north northeast of Stanley on privately owned grazing land totaling about 2\,896 acres\, with an “inside the fence” footprint of about 2\,003 acres; the applicant indicates a preference to construct both phases simultaneously but notes they could be built sequentially. \n\nThe project would interconnect via a new on site 4 ring bus switchyard tapping PNM’s 345 kV Diamond Tail to Clines Corner transmission line that crosses the property\, and the narrative states the project has obtained two Large Generator Interconnection Agreements with PNM totaling 349 MW of interconnection capacity. The applicant is Globemallow Energy\, LLC\, a project specific entity owned and controlled by Linea Energy\, and the filing is positioned as a Conditional Use Permit application under Santa Fe County’s Sustainable Land Development Code\, with the site split between Rural and Agricultural/Ranching zoning where commercial solar and power generation are conditional uses. \nSee the county website for instructions to make public comment.  Please show your support for this essential renewable energy project.

SUMMARY:ClimateXchange: Data Center Impacts - Electricity
DESCRIPTION:As rapid data center growth continues to drive electricity demand across the country\, strains on the power grid could increase electric bills for all ratepayers and threaten reliability. Some parts of the country are predicting energy supply shortfalls due to data centers\, and without strong regulations ratepayers could be forced to bear the cost of grid upgrades necessary to accommodate the extra load. Additionally\, without more transparency into how many proposed data centers will actually get built\, regulators have a challenge in proactively planning for potential growth. \nState policymakers have unique jurisdiction over the retail electric system and a wide range of tools at their disposal to help combat these risks. From deploying clean energy and establishing consumer protections to requiring transparency and lessening the risk of stranded assets\, states are exploring solutions to manage data center load growth across the country. We explore these solutions in Climate XChange’s upcoming State Policy Toolkit for Data Center Regulation on Electricity Affordability and Reliability. \nIn this webinar\, we’ll review the impacts of data centers on electricity affordability and reliability\, and what policy tools are available to states to protect ratepayers and the grid. Our speakers include: \n\nMcKenna Beck\, the Ralph Cavanagh Climate Solutions Fellow at NRDC and author of At the Crossroads: A Better Path to Managing Data Center Load Growth\, who will provide a deep dive into how and where data centers are straining electric grids\, as well as a survey of emerging state responses to bolster energy affordability while advancing clean energy.\nJordan Gerow\, Director of Policy and Research at Climate XChange\, who will explore policy tools and examples included in Climate XChange’s soon-to-be-released State Policy Toolkit for Data Center Regulation: Electricity Affordability and Reliability\, including large load tariffs\, load flexibility\, and better contracting and siting processes to promote the deployment of clean energy.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:"For The Birds" - Live Performance
DESCRIPTION:UU Santa Fe Environmental Justice Team presents a multimedia musical celebration of birds\, with live music\, images and poetry inviting reflection on our changing climate\, brought to us by outstanding Northwest musicians Nelda & Clif Swiggett\, on their 8-week tour. Free admission (donations welcome!) \nNelda & Clif Swiggett \nFrom the artists: \n“For the Birds beautifully bridges science\, art\, and emotion\, helping audience connect with the very real impacts of climate change on birds and the natural world we all share. It’s a powerful reminder that hope and action grow when people feel inspired to care.” \n~ Ellie Yamanaka\, Birds Connect Seattle\, Communications Manager \nFor the Birds features a jazz duo performing the original music of Seattle pianist and composer Nelda Swiggett. But this is not just a concert. The performance engages the power of artistic expression – live music\, spoken words\, images and poetry – to connect audiences emotionally to the scientific realities of our changing climate through the lens of birds. Ultimately a story of hope\, audiences leave the performance feeling empowered to take meaningful action.

SUMMARY:ClimateXchange: Data Center Impacts - Water
DESCRIPTION:As data centers continue to threaten local resources\, ratepayers\, and communities\, understanding how these facilities impact water supply and infrastructure is essential. State policy actors have a vast array of tools and policy mechanisms for regulating water usage\, discharge\, and water service costs\, and requiring data disclosure and analysis to protect their water resources. We explore solutions for safeguarding states’ water resources in Climate XChange’s State Policy Toolkit for Data Center Regulation on Water Impacts. \nWe’re convening a webinar to review the water impacts of data centers\, what water efficiency technologies are available\, and how state policy can mitigate adverse impacts to water supply\, quality\, and costs. Our speakers include: \n\nMargaret Cook\, Vice President of Water and Community Resilience at the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC)\, who will provide a deep dive into how data centers use water for cooling\, where there are impacts to water systems and planning\, and which water efficiency technologies are available to mitigate adverse impacts.\nKristen Soares\, State Climate Policy Network Manager at Climate XChange\, who will provide tools and examples from the recently released State Policy Toolkit for Data Center Regulation on Water Impacts\, covering state policies to protect local water supply and quality\, require disclosure on adverse impacts\, and utilize financial tools to fund water conservation and protect ratepayers\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Third Act: Guest Speaker: Daisy Maldonado & Project Jupiter
DESCRIPTION:Monthly Meeting: Guest Speaker Daisy Maldonado\nThird Act Actions Lab is excited to host Daisy Maldonado\, educator\, facilitator\, and former Director of the Empowerment Congress in Dona Ana County\, New Mexico. Daisy will share her experiences and insights fighting Project Jupiter\, a fast-tracked\, massive and controversial $165 billion AI data center campus in Dona Ana County. This will be a a fantastic opportunity to learn about the fight against data centers on the frontlines and engage in a Q&A.  Project Jupiter is one example of an increasingly common phenomenon: giant data centers built quickly in poor communities\, bypassing consultatation and regulatory processes. \nDaisy has been an advocate for community programs and organizations that put people at their center and shift power to those most impacted by unjust systems. Her grassroots approach to systemic change challenges society’s ideas about immigrant populations and the contributions that Colonias play in community leadership. Her work uplifts and equips people with the tools necessary to lead and voice their concerns. Her work significantly creates hope for the next generation of our community. \nRegister
