Blue Hydrogen Briefing

November 16, 2021 @ 7:00 pm MST

Free – Please register in advance for this meeting: see below. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Description: Governor Lujan Grisham is pushing to make New Mexico a hydrogen hub; a national center for hydrogen production, attracting new Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act federal dollars and greening our methane (natural gas) industry. The governor will make her proposed Hydrogen Hub Act one of the focuses of the legislative session that begins in January. While the gas and pipeline industries are on board, many others are questioning the claim that hydrogen made from methane is in anyway “green” or moves the New Mexico economy toward a smaller carbon footprint.

Hydrogen is labeled different colors depending on how it is made.

Confused about blue vs green hydrogen? Tom Solomon’s talk will get you up to speed on the sources and “colors” of hydrogen and where hydrogen should and should NOT be used in our energy system and why. He will also cover the risks of converting the Escalante coal generating station west of Grants to hydrogen.
