Freethinkers Forum: Electric Vehicles and Battery Storage

August 15, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am MDT

Ryan Baggett will be sharing information about progress in developing efficient electric vehicles, and the positive effects this has on the environment.

Bio

Ryan Baggett is The EVangelist’s Public Affairs Specialist.

Ryan works as a software developer, spending most days building things from as simple as chatbots which are less annoying than most chatbots (but still pretty damned irritating) to conducting database integrations and writing machine learning algorithms for artificial intelligence applications for client companies such as General Motors, IntelliSys, and Thomson-Reuters.   He decided to pursue his more tech-heavy interests as a career after spending almost 15 years in various technology sales and pre-sales engineering roles.

Ryan is currently working on software to enable electric vehicle charging stations to heal themselves, in the event of a malfunction.  Such an enhancement greatly increases the confidence drivers of electric vehicles may have that they won’t get caught out in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery and no functioning charging stations close by, a  barrier to EV adoption known as “range anxiety.”

As part of the EVangelist Team, Ryan does outreach to State and Local elected officials and community business leaders to persuade them of the need to work with automobile dealerships to sponsor the re-education of automobile salespeople in preparation for the massive changeover to electric vehicles.  That change from internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles is going to be like the advent of the locomotive trains in the 1840s – 1900s.  Towns in the west located along the rail lines grew to become large and prosperous cities.  Those towns located too far from the invigorating lifelines of the railroads eventually dried up and became “ghost towns.”   The same thing will happen to towns and cities which do not make the necessary infrastructure upgrades (Electric Vehicle Charging Stations) to support a growing number of electric vehicles.  Internal combustion engine vehicles are the analog of the horse-drawn carriages of the late 19th Century.

Ryan is the father of three beautiful children: Sarah (18), Will (17) and Jack (15).  Everything he does is ultimately for them.

The Freethinkers Forum currently meets via zoom the third Sunday of every month from 8:30 – 10 am. Our general format is a short presentation on a topic which has been suggested by the group, followed by an hour or so of open discussion of the subject. All are welcome, and all outlooks on the topics are respected. We aim to learn from each other and celebrate our diversity!
