Priorities for Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture

October 12, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm MDT

Setting Federal Policy Priorities for Soil Health and Regenerative Agriculture

Join us for a special zoom meeting with staff from Senator Martin Heinrich’s office to discuss how federal agricultural policy can best advance soil health and regenerative agriculture in New Mexico and nationwide.

We will focus first on the Agriculture Resilience Act (ARA) which Senator Heinrich introduced on Earth Day 2021. This bill has not been passed (yet) but there are important sections in it that can be singled out and enacted as stand alone measures or in the upcoming Farm Bill.

Read the bill H.R. 5861 Agriculture Resilience Act and/or our blog post which summarizes it and come ready to offer your feedback on what sections would be most impactful for you.

For example: the ARA is calling for matching federal funding for states and tribes that have soil health programs — this is an ideal illustration of policy that advances our principles of investing in soil heath while uplifting BIPOC communities.

We will also focus on the upcoming Farm Bill in order to raise up some key priorities that are important to all of us. In a nutshell, we think incentivizing the adoption of the soil health principles and facilitating organic regenerative agriculture should be the central organizing principle of US federal ag policy. What do you think?
