Fire Ghosts, Climate Change and Our Cultural Landscape

January 26, 2021 @ 6:00 pm MST

El Rancho de las Golondrinas is excited to introduce our 2021 Speaking of Traditions virtual Winter Lecture Series, co-sponsored with the New Mexico Museum of Art!

We invite you to join us for three enlightening Facebook Live events that explore the relationship between history and the natural environment. Join fine-art photographer Patricia Galagan, and conservationist and environmental writer William deBuys, as they discuss Fire Ghosts, Climate Change and Our Cultural Landscape.

Patricia and her late husband, Philip Metcalf are co-authors of Fire Ghosts, a photography book about the aftermath of the Las Conchas fire of 2011. They photographed in the fire’s burn scar for seven years as the forest progressed from destruction to regrowth. Fire Ghosts includes essays by William de Buys, research ecologist Craig Allen, and New Mexico Museum of Art photo curator, Katherine Ware. Fire Ghosts, published byGeorge F. Thompson Publishing in 2019, was voted Best Nature Book in the 2020 New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards.
