AAUW Santa Fe is pleased to announce that Distinguished Professor and Climate Scientist Dr. Elisabeth Holland will speak to invited guests in Santa Fe, NM on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026. AAUW SF will greet guests at the Hotel Santa Fe at 1:00 p.m. in the Kiva Room.

Dr. Holland will present “My Climate Journey” with a Q & A session afterwards.

Dr. Elisabeth Holland Bio

Professor Holland has been working for decades to address the climate change issue from serving as a Senior Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado to working as Professor of Ocean and Climate at the University of the South Pacific serving 16 Pacific Island countries. She negotiated key elements of the Paris Agreement, a landmark international treaty adopted in 2015 to combat climate change. Recently, Dr. Holland provided an expert climate change opinion to the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion, based in The Hague, Netherlands.

Dr. Elisabeth Holland contributed to the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the IPCC, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. She was recognized for her significant contributions to the IPCC reports that built a greater understanding of human-caused climate change. The prize was shared between the IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore.

Her distinguished career spans decades and cites Professor Holland as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, as a Leopold Fellow, and as founding member of the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena, Germany.

Professor Holland spent her childhood in New Mexico and now calls Santa Fe home.
